CTI at the Smithsonian

By February 11, 2013 No Comments

One of the highlights of our recent trip to the USA was the opportunity to present a seminar about our public archaeology project at the Blackfriary, Trim, to the museum faculty.  I was kindly invited by Dr Laurie Burgess, Associate Chair of the Department of Anthropology, and we were blown away by the welcome we received, both at the talk and in giving of their time so generously afterwards.  Laurie showed us the hidden depth of the museum, and Prof Dennis Stanford showed us the amazing pre-historic collections.

We were delighted to find that the Smithsonian is home to many Irish stone axeheads, and I will be returning next year to record and hopefully publish them.
